Opencard can be used as an electronic season ticket (voucher) for most passengers travelling by Prague public transport as well as in all tariff zones of Prague Integrated Transport, and as a document to prove that you are entitled to discounted or free of charge fare.
Electronic season tickets (vouchers): how to get them and for how much
Season tickets (vouchers) can be purchased at contact points or you can order them in the Prague Public Transit Company’s e-shop.
Electronic season tickets, which are downloaded on Opencard, have optional validity commencement; a passenger can for example purchase a monthly ticket valid from 18th November 2011 to 17th December 2011 etc. Passengers choose validity commencement, either when purchasing the ticket at one of the contact points or in the e-shop (when purchasing via e-shop, you have to take into account the amount of time needed for the payment being processed!). You can purchase electronic season ticket (voucher) 60 days in advance.
As opposed to paper tickets (vouchers), no -1 a+3 days overlap applies for electronic season tickets (vouchers)!
Apart from tickets used in the territory of Prague, you can also purchase electronic season tickets (vouchers) for outer zones of Prague Integrated Transport (zones 1 – 5), including the discounted pupil and student fare. For detailed pricelist, visit ROPID website.

Electronic season tickets (vouchers): who needs them?
Tariff categories Adult, Junior and Senior 60 – 65 years, can purchase (vouchers) and download on their Opencard electronic season tickets only. Paper season tickets (vouchers) were cancelled on 14. 11. 2010.
Paper season tickets (vouchers) for tariff categories Student (19 – 26 years) and for suburban transport are still on sale and valid. Paper season tickets (vouchers) will be changed to Opencard probably at the turn of years 2011 and 2012; exact date will be published in advance.
How to prove you are entitled to discount on single fare
Passengers between 60 and 65 can use Opencard to prove that they are entitled to discounted single fare (CZK 12 and 16) if they have downloaded Senior 60 – 65 Year application on their card. You can prove the same thing with the identification card issued by Prague Public Transit Company.
Paper version of single fare (that is the tickets for a single journey for 32 CZK, 24 CZK, 16 CZK a 12 CZK) and single tickets for longer period (24 hours and 72 hours) remain on sale and Opencard is not necessary for their purchase!
How to prove you are entitled to free fare
Since 1st July 2011 children younger than 15 and senior citizens 65 years old and older can travel for free at the territory of Prague. Senior citizens between 65 and 70 years and children between 10 and 15 has to prove they are entitled to the free fare by Opencard with downloaded application „Free fare“ (Child 6 – 15 years, Senior 65 – 70 years). Children from 6 to 10 years old can prove they are entitled either by Opencard with the downloaded application or by any other ID with name, date of birth and photo (for example by the Prague Transport ID, leisure activity classes etc.).
The application that proves you are entitled to free fare can be purchased for CZK 120 at the Prague Public Transport departments. The application is valid for up to 6 years and it also applies to Czech Railways trains that cater for transport at Prague territory.

Activation of the service that entitles you to discounted fare
For the first time it is possible to purchase discounted fares for tariff categories Junior, Senior and Student via e-shop after you activate your card at a contact point (by purchasing a discounted voucher) or in the validator in metro station entrances (doesn’t apply to students). If you don’t activate the card, e-shop will offer you undiscounted fare only! ( E-shop of Prague Transit Company) (available only in Czech).
Option to suspend validity of yearly tickets (vouchers)
As of 1st July 2010, you can suspend validity of a yearly ticket (voucher) twice during its validity, for 14 days at minimum and 60 days at maximum (for both suspensions). Validity of the ticket is afterwards extended by the amount of time for which it has been suspended. Suspension can be done up to 60 days in advance. You can apply for the service at selected contact points
Electronic season tickets (vouchers): Inspection
At any time during your journey, validity of your season ticket can be checked by Prague Transit Company’s inspectors.
Validity of electronic season ticket can be checked:
- In public transport by an inspector with a microform reader
- On boarding suburban buses (lines n. 301 – 499 and 601 – 620) – the microform reader is installed by the driver’s till
- In trains by a conductor with a microform reader
- On ferries by the captain with a microform reader
Passengers can check the validity of their electronic season tickets (vouchers) in validators located in metro stations, from the proof of payment for the voucher, or at contact points for electronic fare recharge.
